Payton Domschke
Payton began her broadcast meteorology career while completing her degree in meteorology and climatology at Ball State University (#Chirpchirp). Before her final semester of college, she began working full-time in Fort Wayne, Indiana at WPTA-TV as their weekend evening meteorologist.
Following Payton's graduation, she became the weekend morning meteorologist in Norfolk, Virginia at WVEC-TV. During her time in the Mid-Atlantic, she covered the end of Norfolk's 700+ day snow drought and helped track the remnants of Hurricane Isaias
Payton's next stop took her closer to her Midwest roots. In December 2021, she became a meteorologist at WKYC-TV in Cleveland, Ohio. Shortly after joining the team, Payton experienced back-to-back lake effect snow events with the first storm dumping more than two feet of snow in some locations. The following winter included "the Christmas Storm of 2022" with a flash freeze, sub-zero wind chills, and the area's first Blizzard Warning in nearly 10 years.
Payton grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and is named after Chicago Bears' legend Walter Payton. While named after 'Sweetness,' she admits football is a sport she continues to learn about. Payton is also proud of her Polish heritage and loves a good paczki around Fat Tuesday.
If Payton isn't in the weather center whipping up a new graphic, she is likely spending time with the ones she loves. She also enjoys being outdoors, traveling, music (something country or top 40) and cooking.
