CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police have closed a portion of Market Street in Center City due to falling ice.

The area between 12th and 13th streets was closed to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic around 2 p.m. Friday.

The view from Chopper 6 showed police cars and police tape blocking the area.

Ice chunks, some of them as big as a baseballs, started falling from the top of the Loew's hotel building at 12th and Market.

"We had large slabs of ice falling from the building. Very dangerous," said Ofc. Aquil Byrd.

Smaller pieces continued to fall, with the wind blowing some past the police line.

One New York City woman, in town for a wedding with a party scheduled for the Loew's, was struck.

"I just got bonked in the head where the bride and groom are staying," said Kim Bunce of Brooklyn. Fortunately, she wasn't hurt.

No injuries have been reported.
