PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Subzero wind chills, single digit temperatures and you could feel every bit of it across our region Sunday night.

And it's only getting colder with expected record breaking temps as we move into Monday morning.

"I'm going to hopefully be in a car tomorrow so the weather ain't going to stop me - I'm going to be in a car, not walking," said Kyle Sampson, West Philadelphia.

The foot traffic was low but there were few remaining love birds after the Valentine's Day weekend.

"We're walking around the city, we ran up the Rocky steps like 10 times to stay warm," said Ron Gentile, New York City.

"The wind definitely gets you at the end but it's not that terrible but it's definitely cold," said Liz Caholo, New York City.

On Penn's campus, it was a little busier - layers were key.

"I think it means we need winter to end pretty soon because I'm built for 80 degree days not negative 10," said Nick Pesta, Baltimore.

Earlier Sunday, the powerful winds brought down trees and power lines in several places around the Delaware Valley and affected travel on some area bridges and mass transit routes.

The Action Cam was in Newtown Square, Delaware County early Sunday morning, where a 90-foot oak tree came crashing down on a home, just after midnight in the unit block of Spruce Road.

Meantime in the East Falls section of Philadelphia, a large branch landed on a 2-story apartment building in the 2900 block of West School House Lane.

The branch broke through the ceiling of a man's bedroom at 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

The man was waiting to hear from his landlord about getting temporary shelter while repairs were underway.

In Bridesburg, high winds brought down some power lines on Bridge Street near Thompson Street.

Firefighters responded to the scene at 6:30 a.m. and were awaiting utility crews.

There were some scattered power outages across the region but by Sunday afternoon most customers had their service restored.

Power problems caused some trouble for SEPTA riders as well.

Regional rail service between the Lansdale and Doylestown stations was suspended due to problems with the overhead lines.

Trains were traveling to and from Lansdale, but customers were asked to use alternate service between Lansdale and Doylestown until the problem was fixed.

All service had been restored by 10:30 a.m.

Powerful wind gusts and icy patches prompted the Delaware River Port Authority to announce speed restrictions for the main bridges spanning the Delaware River.

Maximum speeds were down to 25 miles per hour on the Betsy Ross, Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman and Commodore Barry bridges.

And Code Blue alerts remained in effect in communities around the region because of the sub-zero wind chills.

In Philadelphia, anyone seeing a homeless person outside was being urged to call the city's Homeless Outreach Hotline at 215-232-1984.
