Road crews, residents preparing for potential winter storm
LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. (WPVI) -- With the potential for snow this weekend, road crews could be called into action for the first major storm of the winter.
Meanwhile, people are already hitting hardware stores to make sure they have what they need.
At H&R Landscaping in Plymouth Meeting staffers are keeping one eye on the forecast, and the other on making sure its 35 trucks, 22 snow blowers and other assorted snow moving gear is ready to roll.
H&R Landscaping president Pete Rosa says, "We restart the trucks every morning, because you think everything is prepared, and yet an alternator will go. So that's something that needs to be addressed right away."
A few miles away in Norristown, PennDOT crews are doing last minute checks. It's been a quiet winter so far. This time last year there had been nibe plowable events.
This season PennDOT has used about 1,500 to 2,000 tons of salt.
Gene Blaum of Penndot tells us, "Last year at this time we used approximately 24,000 tons, and in mid-January of 2014 we used 74,000 tons of salt at this time."
But now computer models suggest snow could be in the pipeline.
At Holod's True Value in Lafayette Hill, they are beginning to see consumers stir, from picking up Snow Blowers from the repair shop, to buying snow melt.
However, at this point all we can do is watch and wait for the models to tell us what we can expect from Mother Nature later this week.
