PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- People working outside can't escape the cold weather so Action News went across Philadelphia with our thermal imaging camera to see how well they were keeping warm.

Jennifer Larkin's picture showed that she might want thicker gloves.

As for covering her face, "I guess I'm doing pretty good I can't do much to cover up my face because I have to talk to people," said Larkin.

The orange represents heat but the brighter the orange means that heat is escaping.

The blue or darker parts of the image show that heat is trapped in.

On Rittenhouse Square, Parc Rittenhouse doorman Richard Fulton soaked in the sun when he could.

We stepped into the shade for his thermal scan.

"I'm good today - very good today. Tomorrow I'm worried about," said Fulton.

Who would've thought 34 degrees meant a warmer day? At 15th and Chestnut streets, Carlos Varona thought so.

"I definitely put on too many clothes today," he said with a laugh.

On Friday, once the sun dodged behind the clouds and the wind picked up, conditions became bitter once again.

But not for Varona. His core was blue, which meant he was nice and warm.

Even though heat was escaping his hands and face, he says it doesn't bother him. No gloved needed here - he says he's been working outside since he was 18.

"So that's probably why I'm acclimated to it already," said Varona.
