PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police identified the man killed during a deadly shooting inside of an office building in Philadelphia's Logan section on Friday morning.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Nassir Day, was shot in the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene at about 11:43 a.m.

Day was a security officer at that office building. His family was too distraught to speak with Action News, but close friend Marques Morris who played football with Day, says he was very much against violence and believes he may have saved the lives of others.

"He's a standup guy. He'll just do whatever it takes to protect anybody. He put his life on the line for it, and the fact that it cost him his life, it hurts," said Morris.

Police told Action News they were called to the 5200 block of Old York Road just before 11:30 a.m. for reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived on the scene, they cleared the building floor by floor and found the suspect, 59-year-old Wayne John Dorylis, on the third floor of the building.

"He was armed with a weapon," said Philadelphia Deputy Commissioner of Investigations Benjamin Naish. "They took the individual into custody. He was arrested without further incident."

Dorylis has been arrested numerous times, including for terroristic threats and robbery, officials say.

Authorities say Dorylis is facing several charges including murder and causing/risking a catastrophe.

Police also say they recovered three "spring shot" style homemade guns and two spent shotgun shells.

According to officials, the man's mental health and motive are part of the things investigated at this time.

Sources tell Action News a recent rant possibly posted by Dorylis is something detectives are also looking into closely.

According to the postings he made on social media, the suspect was on a mission to kill as many people at a housing agency he claimed stole his money and ruined his life.

"It was real scary, I froze up, I didn't know what to do," said Arthur Francis, a client at Pathways to Housing.

Francis had a terrifying encounter with the suspect as he made his way into the building.

"I was like, 'What's wrong?' He says, 'They took my money, and they messed up my life' is what he told me," Francis said.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw issued a statement on social media that reads, "Today's murder of an employee at a Logan office building is absolutely heartbreaking. I extend my deepest condolences to the victim's loved ones and commend our brave

PPD 35th district officers who expertly and tactically ended an active shooter situation without further injury."
