Bryn Mawr mom, son accused of selling drugs from home

RADNOR TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- Radnor police have charged a Main Line mother and son with selling drugs to college students from their home.

On Monday, authorities announced the arrests of 53-year-old Joann Badey and her 24-year-old son George Badey IV and displayed images of the drugs confiscated from their home in the 100 block of Garrett Avenue in Bryn Mawr.

"The mother and son of that residence were selling to our undercover officers as well as several other residents in that area and local college students; as you are aware, we are very close to several colleges right in that area," Radnor Police Lt. Chris Flanagan said.

Police say more than $4,000 in marijuana was confiscated as well as thousands of dollars in heroin and prescription drugs.

Rosemont and Villanova University are among the campuses nearby.

It was not immediately clear if the two were actively going to the campuses allegedly selling drugs.

"We do know that local students from the area colleges were coming to that property specifically and purchasing different types of drugs," Flanagan said.

George Badey IV is the son of George Badey III who's the head of the Democratic Party in Radnor and a former Radnor commissioner. Joann Badey is his ex-wife.

"Regardless of who these people may be related to, that has no bearing. I don't care what your race, sex, social economic status is, or any of that nature, it does not matter to us," Radnor Police Superintendent William Colarulo said.

Police say the investigation is continuing.

Both mother and son have been arraigned and released from jail after posting bail.
