Crash causes backup on Route 55 in Elk Twp., N.J.

ELK TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A crash is slowing traffic on Route 55 in Gloucester County.

It happened around 11:00 a.m. Friday near exit 45 in Elk Township.

Images from Chopper 6 HD showed overhead showed a light colored sedan with extensive damage which appeared to have spun out on an off-ramp.

There was no immediate word on the number or extent of injuries, or if other vehicles were involved.

One lane of traffic was getting by the scene along a three-lane section of highway.

Cars and trucks appeared to be backed up for miles approaching the scene.
