Islamic institute catches fire in southeast Houston

Arson investigators were called to the scene of a fire at an Islamic center this morning in Houston Texas.

HOUSTON -- A fire has broken out at an Islamic community and education center in Houston.

The Houston Fire Department responded around 5:30am this morning to a structure fire at the Quba (KOH'-buh) Islamic Institute.

Flames could be seen burning a structure.

Authorities had no immediate reports of anyone hurt or a possible cause of the fire.

Further details weren't immediately available.

A message left with the Quba Islamic Institute wasn't immediately returned Friday. The organization's website says the institute, which opened in 2013, offers community services and also operates an Islamic school.
