2 highway workers struck on Route 1 in Delaware County

MIDDLETOWN TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- One highway worker is hospitalized and another has refused treatment after both workers were struck by a pickup truck while working along Route 1 in Delaware County.

It happened at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes near the Granite Run Mall in Middletown Township.

Action News has learned the worker who required hospitalization is a contract employee for PennDOT who was removing trash along the highway.

The worker, who is employed by MK Enterprises, LLC of Upper Darby, was struck by a Ford pickup truck and was being flown by medical helicopter to Penn Presbyterian.

There was no immediate word on that worker's condition.

Details were not immediately available concerning the other worker, or whether the driver of the pickup truck stopped after the incident.

Police are investigating.
