K-9 credited with seizure of $19,000 in unreported cash at Philadelphia International Airport

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A four-legged crime fighter at Philadelphia International Airport is credited with uncovering thousands of dollars in hidden cash.

Nitro, a K-9 with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, alerted officers to two travelers headed to the Dominican Republic on Monday.

Officers say the man and woman possessed more than $19,000 in unreported cash.

Federal law allows travelers to carry any amount of money, but anything over $10,000 must be reported to customs.

During fiscal year 2025, Customs and Border Protection said its officers and agents seized an average of about $180,000 in unreported or illicit currency daily.
