First look at 'Star Wars: The Experience' exhibit coming to the Franklin Institute in February 2027

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- We are getting our first look at "Star Wars: The Experience," a first-of-its-kind, immersive fan exhibition making its world debut at the Franklin Institute in February, 2027.

The first details and renderings were unveiled over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con.

The exhibit will feature 18,000-square-feet of everything Star Wars, including a a rare collection of iconic artifacts that will be on display in Philadelphia for the first time.

"There will be some iconic pieces that people won't want to miss," says Matt Martin from Lucasfilm.

From Darth Maul's lightsaber to Darth Vader's costume, the Franklin Institute will host some never before seen, legendary "Star Wars" artifacts from the Lucasfilm archives.

"The Franklin Institute's been amazing at helping us kind of whittle down from our vast collection," says Portia Fontes from Lucasfilm.

"They've picked some really kind of 'Holy Grail' pieces," adds Martin.

Those pieces include creatures, droids, and other alien species, like Grogu, R2-D2, and C-3PO, and set pieces from "Andor."

"To be able to partner with Lucasfilm and tell the story around the 50th anniversary, it really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," says Abby Bysshe, the Chief Experience and Strategy Officer at The Franklin Institute.

Highlights include Queen Amidala's Throne Room, where you can step inside and see her iconic red gown.

"Going to see their warehouse, collaborating with them, was like a boyhood dream," says Dan Picard from The Franklin Institute. "I grew up loving 'Star Wars' and being able to sit down and see these things firsthand gave us a really good context to really bring that that energy and that love out in the experience itself."

Guests will also encounter a full-scale Han Solo in carbonite and create their own iconic "carbon freeze" sequence.

Perhaps the coolest part? You can choose your own galaxy adventure.

"You will get to pick whether you're 'dark side' or 'light side' at the very beginning of the exhibition," says Bysshe. "And that's going to curate your experience as you move through all these different interactives."

"Star Wars: The Experience" debuts at the Franklin Institute in February and runs through September of 2027.

The exhibit will then travel the world. Tickets will go on sale in November.
