Man critical after gunman breaks into West Philly home: Police

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are searching for a gunman who broke into a home and shot a resident multiple times on Tuesday night in West Philadelphia.

The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. in the 5800 block of Sansom Street.

When officers arrived, they found a 30-year-old man lying in the driveway with multiple gunshot wounds to his arms, legs and abdomen. The victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

According to police, the suspect kicked in the front door of the home and chased the victim inside. Investigators said the victim fled through a rear door, where the suspect fired about nine shots.

Police said several people were inside the home at the time of the shooting, including a child under the age of 3, as well as young and elderly adults.

A motive for the shooting has not yet been determined, and a description of the suspect has not been released.
