PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the assault of a U.S. Postal Service worker in the Frankford section of Philadelphia.
Police say Fabian Colon, 25, was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, robbery, theft by unlawful taking, simple assault, and related offenses. The incident occurred Saturday afternoon while the postal worker was making deliveries on the 4600 block of Horrocks Street.
According to investigators, Colon approached the worker while the mail truck was blocking the road. He allegedly attempted to move the vehicle himself, prompting the 23-year-old postal worker to take the keys. Police say Colon then physically assaulted the worker and grabbed her phone.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Detectives are using video of the attack posted on social media as part of their investigation. Neighbors who viewed the footage expressed shock and concern.
"Wow, that's intense," said Laurente Rice. "It's a shame in this world today. You can't even do your job."
"It's just disappointing," added Tatiana Torres.
Victoria Rodriguez, who lives on the block, noted that postal workers often have to double-park to make quick deliveries when parking is limited.
"Take a breath," Rodriguez said. "You don't have to get to where you need to go just this instant."
Colon posted bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 21. His attorney said they are currently investigating and cannot provide a statement at this time.
