Joe Frazier's step grandson killed in shooting

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - May 31, 2009 Police were called to the Pleasures on the Ridge Tavern located in the 2200 block of Ridge Avenue around 1:30 a.m.

Peter Lyde Jr. was working security in the tavern when authorities say a patron and a bartender got into an argument.

Moments later, the patron opened fire.

25-year-old Lyde was shot once in the chest and died due to his injury at Temple University Hospital.

Lyde is the son of Peter Lyde Sr. who is married to Judge Jacqui Frazier-Lyde. Jacqui is the daughter of boxing legend Joe Frazier and is a municipal court judge in Pennsylvania.

"We're devastated with a senseless murder of someone who we love and there's no explanation," Lyde Sr. told Action News in an exclusive interview.

Lyde Sr. says his son went by the nickname 'Beast' during his days on the football field at George Washington High School.

But behind the man known as 'Beast' was a loving son, brother, and friend.

"I'm asking everybody to put out an all point bulletin who murdered my boy, so they can be brought to justice," Lyde Sr. said.

No arrests have been made so far.
