Locals celebrate Back to the Future Day with trip to past

BRYN MAWR, Pa. (WPVI) -- At the Bryn Mawr Film Institute, hundreds paid tribute to the infamous date Marty McFly and Doc Brown visit the future in "Back to the Future Part II."

The all-time, popular movie screening was a sellout event on Wednesday night.

"It was the first movie I ever saw and it's my favorite film of all time," said Nick Malfitano of East Falls.

"The car, the movies and the car got me," said Kyle Nix of Upper Darby, Pa.

Robery Arana of Doylestown showed off his very own DeLorean that includes his own version of a flux-capacitor he made himself.

Arana told Action News he gets a lot of comments on the iconic vehicle saying, "A lot of cars go past me then they slow down, the window comes down and they all take a cell phone picture."

Looking back, the movie had a number of predictions of what 2015 would be like, many of them accurate, including cell phones, flat-screen TV's and drones. They even pegged the Cubs being in the World Series.

As for Hoverboards?

"Six-year-old me, when I first saw the movie, was waiting on a Hoverboard for 2015, and it's not quite there yet," said Malfitano.

For Elana Bradley, sitting in the DeLorean changed her future. Her boyfriend Kyle Nix proposed marriage to her.

After all the excitement about the big day, tomorrow is the past.
