NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- We got our first look at an ambitious revitalization project in North Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Housing Authority hosted a grand opening for the Sharswood-Blumberg neighborhood near the 1500 block of North 24th Street.

57 new rental units are now available and many more are in the process of being built.

This is only the first phase of the project.

"A new supermarket is part of the plan. That construction will begin soon as well. I know how critical commercial corridors are to thriving neighborhoods and that's what PHA is creating here," Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said.

Eventually, the construction project will produce more than 1,200 housing units both affordable and market rate rentals and homes for sale.
