The City of Philadelphia is in a Code Blue until further notice.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Many will tell you the best way to stay warm is to stay inside. Well, when you don't have a home, inside is not an easy option.

The City of Philadelphia is in a Code Blue until further notice. It's enacted in extreme cold, triggering efforts to shelter anyone who needs it.

Four hundred and fifty extra beds are brought in to city shelters during the winter months, and officials say they will be close to capacity this weekend.

The city has issued a Code Blue, triggering outreach to the homeless.

David Holloman, Director of Chronic Homelessness, tells us, "We bring in additional outreach teams to visit those particular areas and encourage them to come in."

Officials say if they do reach capacity they will make arrangements to make more beds available.

If you see someone who needs shelter, city officials say contact Project Home at 215-232-1984 or Philadelphia police.
