PENN'S LANDING (WPVI) -- A serious ceremony honored Irish immigrants on the Saint Patrick's Day at Penn's Landing.

Mayor Jim Kenney, who is himself Irish-American, laid a wreath at the Irish Memorial Thursday.

It's a way to pay homage to the pivotal role Irish immigrants played in the city's history.

The irish are the largest ethnic group in the city, providing labor, police and fire department service for 2 centuries.
