UNIVERSITY CITY (WPVI) -- Homeland Security and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit are investigating a suspicious substance that caused several employees to suffer eye irritation at the IRS building in Philadelphia.

Hazmat crews were called to the building on the 2900 block of Market Street around 10:40 a.m. Thursday.

Officials say the employees came in contact with a wet envelope that had a sweet smell on the first floor mail room.

The mail room was closed off, but the building was not evacuated.

Authorities have not determined what exactly caused the eye irritation.

No other injuries were reported.
