CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- Animal control officials from Delaware County are investigating an incident of alleged animal abuse involving a 4-foot alligator.

Officials responded Friday evening to a home on the 200 block of 21st Street in Chester after receiving a tip call.

Inside, they found an alligator in a basement bathtub filled with green slime.

They also found two dogs, one of which was found enclosed in a box, emaciated and dehydrated.

All of the animals are now under the care of a veterinarian at the Aardvark Animal Hospital.

"This is an unfortunate situation, and it's heartbreaking every time we respond to an animal that has been abused or neglected" said Russ "Wolf" Harper, Co-Founder and Humane Police Officer with Justice Rescue. "No pet or animal should ever have to suffer, either cruelly at the hands of an abuser or just because an owner can no longer handle the responsibility."

There's no word yet on what charges, if any, the homeowner may face.
