MARSEILLE, France -- A 1-year-old baby girl has opened her eyes after being in a coma for months. The news comes after her father fought doctors who wanted to end life-support for the child.
Marwa was put in a coma in September to protect her from a a virus that was threatening her whole body. When she didn't improve, doctors recommended that she be taken off life-support.
Marwa's father, Mohammed Bouchenafa, refused and started and online petition to stop the discontinuation of life-support. A judge agreed and granted the little girl two more months of breathing assistance.
According to her parents, Marwa opened her eyes on November 22, and is rapidly recovering.
