A 21-year-old driver was killed in a crash in Center City.

CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- A young man is dead after his car slammed into a tree in Center City Philadelphia.

The accident happened around 3:40 a.m. Sunday on the 400 block of Lombard Street.

Police say the driver, a 21-year-old man, along with three passengers were in the car when it hit the tree at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle went airborne and crashed into a wall outside the Old Pine Community Center.

The car landed on its side.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.

The three passengers were not injured.

Police say speed was the cause.
