A man in his 50s was struck and killed in a hit-and-run in Deptford, New Jersey.

DEPTFORD, N.J. (WPVI) -- An arrest has been made in a hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a man in Deptford, New Jersey.

24-year-old Brian Kowasa of Hirsch Avenue in Runnemede surrendered to police overnight. He is now charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

It happened around 8:00 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Mantua Pike (Route 45).

Police say the victim was walking along the northbound lanes of the roadway, when he was hit by a pickup truck.

The driver of the truck kept going north, fleeing the scene.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where he later died. He is identified as 52-year-old Richard D. McClelland of Coventry Court in Mantua.

An autopsy determined McClelland's death was the result of multiple injuries.

Police say Kowasa was accompanied by his father when he appeared at Deptford police headquarters.

He was released after posting $10,000 bail.
