Philadelphia police said an officer was injured while apprehending a burglary suspect in the city's Spring Garden section.

SPRING GARDEN (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police said an officer was injured while apprehending a burglary suspect in the city's Spring Garden section.

The incident happened at 3:26 p.m. Thursday in the basement of an apartment building in the 1200 block of Ridge Avenue.

Officers reportedly responded to the area for a burglary.

Witnesses say the officer confronted the suspect, who was holding a metal pole. A scuffle ensued and the officer tased the suspect.

During the incident, both the suspect and the officer were injured.

The officer was taken to Temple University Hospital for treatment, and is expected to be released.

Police transported the suspect to Hahnemann University Hospital.

The metal pole was recovered, police said.
