Families flock to Atlantic City for Labor Day tradition

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WPVI) -- Families from across the Delaware Valley spent Labor Day enjoying the beach, boardwalk and attractions in Atlantic City, capping off the holiday weekend before heading home.

"It was absolutely beautiful," said Miranda Faroni of Roxborough.

Faroni said her family spent time on the beach.

"We went and got new buckets to build sandcastles. The water was very rough and the current was a little scary, but it was fun," she said.

Others took advantage of the boardwalk.

"Just enjoy the boards and enjoy the lovely weather," said Ruth Stevens Duncker of Williamstown.

Visitors also stopped at food stands for shore staples and to play games.

As the holiday came to a close, many visitors prepared for the trip home while hoping to avoid traffic.

"I thought it was going to be really busy for Labor Day, but I feel it's OK," said Van Truong of South Philadelphia.

Aerial views from Chopper 6 showed minor congestion on northbound Route 42.

"There's always little jams getting onto the AC Expressway, but it evens out, and if people just be civil and don't pass and get there quicker, it makes it better for all of us," said Jane Baumgardner of Berwyn.

Some young travelers always have a stress-free ride.

"I don't really care about traffic," one boy said.

Another child said, "I'm going to take a nap."
