A crash involving an overturned SUV has shut down the westbound Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) in Center City Philadelphia.

CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- Police are investigating after an SUV crashed and overturned on the Schuylkill Expressway.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. near the 30th Street exit.

Dramatic images from Sky 6, near the scene, showed the vehicle lying on its side.

Police said the driver of the vehicle was traveling westbound, going just under the speed limit, when the front axle snapped causing it to hit a pillar on the highway and flip over.

The driver and two juvenile passengers were unharmed, but the juveniles were taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to be checked out.

All lanes were blocked as first responders arrived and highway crews worked to right the vehicle. All westbound lanes were back open by 7:30 a.m.

An extensive traffic backup remained approaching the 30th Street exit.

Motorists were told to expect continued delays.
