BRICK TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A 94-year-old New Jersey grandmother, who was allegedly beaten by her own granddaughter earlier this month, has died.

The granddaughter, 37-year-old Katherine Schubert, is now charged with murder in the death of Mary Francis Driscol.

Schubert had been previously charged with aggravated assault.

The investigation into this case began on May 18th after Schubert's mother called to say she could not contact either Schubert or Driscol.

After repeated calls, investigators say Schubert's mother returned from New York to their home on Courtshire Drive in Brick Township and met one of Schubert's friends.

They entered the home together to find Schubert 'highly intoxicated,' investigators said, and Driscol slumped over a bed in her bedroom.

Driscol was rushed to the hospital suffering from a number of injuries, including a brain bleed.

On May 24th, Driscol died of her injuries.

Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato and Brick Township Police Chief Nils Bergquist said Schubert now faces a potential sentence of life in prison.
