PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Archdiocese of Philadelphia says it will officially close three churches next month, because they're too expensive to keep open.

The closures include the Saint John of the Cross Church in Roslyn, the Mater Dolorosa Church in Philadelphia's Frankford section and the Saint Cecilia Church in Coatesville.

All three churches were part of parish merges in the last four years.

The churches will close on Sept. 16.
