PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia Eagles legend Ron Jaworski says the team "got it right" with their selection of Doug Pederson as the new head coach.

Pederson is currently the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, serving under former Eagles head coach Andy Reid.

Jaworski, the former Eagles QB and ESPN analyst, told Action News he assisted in the search for a new head coach, even giving Action News an inside look at the binder of materials he used during the search.

"I want to be transparent before I make any comment on Doug Pederson or the Eagles coaching search that I did assist the Eagles in the coaching search," Jaworski said.

"They did a tremendous job. Every potential head coaching possibility was vetted," Jaworski continued, "and at the end of the day the Philadelphia Eagles have acquired an outstanding new head coach."

A formal announcement about Pederson will come after the Kansas City Chiefs' season ends.

Fans didn't hold back once news of Pederson's selection started to spread on Thursday evening.

"Doug Pederson is like going into an ice cream store and ordering vanilla ice cream," said John Glanfield. "He's just there; he's not going to get the job done."

Pederson was a quarterback for 10 seasons including a season with the Eagles. He later spent four seasons as an offensive assistant under Reid from 2009-2012.

"Why not one of his disciples, I mean who else?" said Todd Edwards.

Some fans say they welcome the news.

"He knows the city, so that's a plus," said Jason Skipworth. "I like Andy Reid's system."

The Eagles parted ways with former head coach Chip Kelly the week before the team's final game of the season. Kelly is now the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
