PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A crash involving an overturned dump truck caused delays on the Vine Street Expressway (I-676) in Philadelphia.

The crash happened at 6:30 a.m. Monday at 8th and Vine streets, at the base of the ramp leading from I-676 East into Old City Philadelphia.

Police tell Action News the driver lost control and the dump truck rolled onto its side.

The driver suffered injuries described as serious.

There was no official word on that person's condition, or on what caused the driver to lose control.

The crash caused backups on the eastbound Vine Street Expressway at the height of the Monday morning rush hour.

Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes.
