Search for murderer of Kenneth Huckstep

December 26, 2009 22-year-old Kenneth Huckstep wanted to pursue a career in music. For the past several years he played drums in a band called the "dead birds".

"They were doing their own music but they would play like the Beatles and stuff," said Gary Spangler, Kenneth's step father.

On Saturday night November 15th Kenneth and the band were practicing at a house in Philadelphia's Holmesburg Section.

"For him to walk home it would be no more than 5 minutes from there."

Kenneth headed home, on foot, at about 1:40 Sunday morning. But he never made it.

"The neighbors rushed out when they heard gunshots."

They found Kenneth's body on the 7900 block of Craig Street, just blocks from his home. He had been shot once in the head and 5 more times in his torso.

"To see him get married and have children and become a grand mom, that's not going to happen for me, he was my only child," said Kathie Jo Spangler, Kenneth's mother.

His cell phone and wallet were taken, but not his money.

"His money he always carried in his front jean pockets."

Police have a limited description of the suspect.

"They just say a black male, medium build, driving a dark purple or black Corsica," Gary said.

There is a $5,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

"If anybody knows or seen or heard anything you have to come forward and tell somebody, something," said Kathie.
