GREENWICH TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A Gloucester County police officer has been charged with soliciting a prostitute while on duty and witness tampering in Greenwich Township.

The officer has been identified as 42-year-old William H. Dick III.

According to a police complaint, in April the officer committed misconduct "by engaging in sexual acts with a prostitute while on duty." This was done in exchange for money, the complaint states.

Fearing an investigation into the incident, the officer knowingly did "attempt to induce or otherwise cause a witness to falsely recant an initial report to law enforcement," via a telephone conversation, the complaint states.

The officer turned himself in, accompanied by his lawyer, Friday to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office. He was released after posting $35,000 bail.

He has been suspended without pay from the department where he served as an officer for 13 years.
