KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. -- A Longwood Christmas is a longstanding holiday tradition at Longwood Gardens.

"It's one of the most visited attractions in the Philadelphia area," says Public Relations Manager, Jourdan Cole. It's an outdoor and indoor display of lights and plants and this year the theme is "A Very Retro Christmas" with elements from the 1930s, '40s, '50s and '60s.

Longwood Gardens is a public garden that was founded in 1906 by Pierre S. DuPont, who wanted to save the property from being destroyed by lumber companies.

A Longwood Christmas goes back to 1921 when DuPont was throwing lavish Christmas parties.

Designers start more than a year in advance to come up with the concept.

There are half a million lights outdoors and 150 decorated trees.

A Longwood Christmas runs until January 7, 2024.
