A potential cruise ship nightmare turned into something of a miracle.
A passenger went overboard from a Royal Caribbean ship while cruising off the coast of Mexico.
But then fate intervened in a big way.
In the choppy waves of the Caribbean Sea, a tiny speck and a sound caught Disney Magic cruise ship passenger Scott Campbell's attention.
"I heard what I thought to be a really strange sounding bird. And I noticed that it was a young man screaming for help," said Campbell.
That man, a 22 year-old who had fallen overboard from Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas, had traveled the same route earlier Thursday morning.
Somehow, as the cruise liner neared Cozumel, Mexico, the man went over a railing and had been treading water unnoticed until Campbell heard him.
"Immediately my instinct took over and basically started screaming at the top of my lungs: Man overboard!" recalls Campbell.
Passengers and crew members of the Disney Magic threw the man a life vest and ring as the crew launched a life boat.
"It was surreal seeing the boat head out towards him," said Disney Magic passenger David Hearn.
Disney, the parent company of 6abc and ABC News, confirms the passenger was pulled to safety.
Royal Caribbean released a statement saying: "We are grateful for the other ship's assistance."
It's unclear how the man went overboard or what floor he fell from, but the top deck of the Oasis of the Seas is a staggering 21 stories high.
That would be taller than a drop from the top of Niagara Falls.
Regardless, witnesses call his story remarkable.
"That right there is a miracle," said Scott Campbell.
It's also unclear what the man's condition is today, but witnesses say after the rescue he was alert and waving at passengers and giving a thumbs up.
