Man tased during scuffle with police in University City

UNIVERSITY CITY (WPVI) -- An unidentified man was tased by police during a scuffle in the University City Section of Philadelphia.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of 38th and Market streets.

Witnesses say that the police came upon the man inside a car. The man apparently drove through a National Guard barricade.

The car was stopped when police and security officers attempted to remove the man from the car.

Police say the man refused and a scuffle occurred. Officers then called for backup.

They say the man was tased, handcuffed and taken into custody.

The incident remains under investigation.
