21 charged after investigation into cocaine trafficking in North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA -- Nearly two dozen people were charged after an investigation into a large-scale cocaine-trafficking enterprise tied to North Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday said the network distributed large amounts of cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana out of the area near 5th and Cornwall.

Twenty-one individuals have been charged, and 16 of them were arrested on Thursday.

Sunday's office said the suspects charged include Jimme Torres, the alleged leader of the organization, and his son, Matthew Torres, who allegedly oversaw the enterprise when his father was at his home in Puerto Rico.

Police also seized large amounts of narcotics, 19 firearms and $275,000 in cash.
