CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- Three teenagers were injured in a shooting outside an Uno Pizzeria near Widener University in Chester, Pa. late Wednesday night, according to police.
The shooting happened around 11 p.m. on the 1500 block of Providence Street, where sources say a group of about 30 young people had gathered to celebrate graduation from high schools in Chester.
Toni Alexander said she first learned of the incident when she heard a call come over her police scanner at the address where her daughter was celebrating.
"I was like, 'Get home now, get home now,'" Alexander said.
Alexander returned to the scene Thursday morning to retrieve her daughter's shoes.
"One of her friends was grazed and the other three were injured," she said.
Sources say about 40 shots were fired when at least three shooters pulled up to the party and opened fire.
According to sources, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg, an 18-year-old man was shot in the hip and a 19-year-old woman was shot in the shoulder. All three victims were taken to Christiana Hospital.
Eric, who was also at the gathering celebrating his own graduation, said he fled the scene as the gunfire erupted.
"Bullets flying across everybody's face," he said.
"It messed me up because we're just out here having a good time, partying, being kids and people come out and start shooting," he added.
Investigators say no arrests have been made.
Police Commissioner Katrina Blackwell said the violence affects the broader community.
"When gun violence erupts in public spaces, it impacts far more than those directly involved; it diminishes the quality of life for everyone who lives and works here," Blackwell said.
Mayor Stefan Roots also condemned the shooting.
"While we are relieved that none of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, this senseless violence is unacceptable and has no place in our community," Roots said.
Neighbors say they are frustrated by continued gun violence in the area.
"These are young adults; these are 17-19 kids celebrating. They can't go nowhere around here without someone shooting," Alexander said.
Police said they are reviewing surveillance video from the area in an effort to identify those responsible.
Sources also said investigators are examining whether the shooting may be retaliation for other recent incidents involving teenagers.
