I-476 NB closed for hours after after fatal crash in work zone on Northeast Extension

WHITPAIN TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- The northbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension (I-476) were closed for hours after a fatal truck crash in a work zone.

The crash happened north of DeKalb Pike in Whitpain Township, Montgomery County, around 2:15 a.m. Thursday.

A dump truck with heavy front-end damage could be seen from Chopper 6.

Chopper 6 was over a crash on the Northeast Extension, where you could see severe damage to the front of a dump truck.

It also appeared there was a spill on the roadway.

Officials have not released any information on the victim.

The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.

The highway has since reopened.
