Cat found abandoned, malnourished in Philadelphia basement recovering after emergency surgery

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- An animal nonprofit in Philadelphia is caring for an abandoned and malnourished cat.

Stray Cat Relief Fund says the animal was discovered in the basement of an apartment building late Monday night.

Staffers name the cat Christopher.

They believe the white feline was kept as a pet for some time.

Christopher was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital for surgery and is facing an uphill health battle.

The procedure will be paid for entirely through public donations.

The animal rescue is working to get security footage from the property to identify who abandoned the cat.
