Assembly lawmakers in New Jersey advance bill to legalize 'magic mushrooms'

Magic mushrooms could become legal in New Jersey if some lawmakers get their way.

The Assembly's democratic-led health committee advanced a bill to legalize the drug.

It's called psilocybin, and adults over 21 would have access to the drug for mental health treatment.

Several cities have legalized the psychedelic.

And a drugmaker is seeking FDA approval of a synthetic version, expected late next year or early 2027.

The bill now goes to the Assembly's appropriations committee for consideration.
