SWAT takes man into custody near scene of fatal shooting in Hunting Park

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Action News was there as police took a man into custody on Monday near the scene of a fatal overnight shooting in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia.

Video shows SWAT officers making their way into a home around 10:45 a.m. and leaving with someone in handcuffs.

Police say that the person was taken into custody for further investigation in relation to the homicide. However, any potential relationship this person has to the shooting is not yet known.

Officers were called to North Warnock and Venango streets at 1:40 a.m. to find a 23-year-old man who had been shot twice - once in the back and once in the chest.

He died at Temple University Hospital.

At the scene, a black Mercedes could be seen with the engine still running.

Initially, police said a man was allegedly trying to steal the Mercedes when he was fatally shot by the owner of the car. Now, police say the motive has not been determined.

Police believe the gunfire that hit the 23-year-old came from an open window at a home on the corner, the same home where SWAT took a man into custody.

Other homes on the block were also hit, but no one else was injured.

The name of the man killed has not been released.
