Delaware boy with Malan syndrome steps up to the plate to inspire his peers

CLAYMONT, Delaware (WPVI) -- A young boy's passion for baseball has kept him swinging big despite his rare disorder.

Dawson Johnson has "Malan Syndrome" which affects his movement capabilities.

"He has some developmental delays...Just the simplest things that we take for granted are difficult for him, but he shows that perseverance," said Dawson's father, Matthew Johnson.

He inspires his peers and local community each day that he continues to step up to the plate.

"He has such a great personality. He's very outgoing and loves to talk to anybody he encounters. So I just hope that in the future, he's able to still continue to do that and build those relationships and make those connections," said Dawson's mother, Brandie Johnson.
