NEW CASTLE, Del. (WPVI) -- A driver is facing more than 20 charges after police say he was under the influence when he crashed into a car, struck a tree and slammed into a home in New Castle, Delaware.
The crash sent bricks flying inside, injuring a woman as her baby slept nearby.
The crash happened around 1 a.m. Sunday on the 100 block of Bunche Boulevard, according to surveillance video that captured the moment a car sped down the street and plowed into the home.
Inside, Miriam Matthews was asleep in her bedroom with her 10-month-old baby in a crib just a few inches away.
"All I hear is just a big boom and then just things falling on me and I wake up screaming because I didn't know what was going on," Matthews said.
Matthews said the impact sent debris into her room, hitting her as she tried to process what happened.
"All I know is I woke up with bricks on me and I was coughing up what came in my mouth and my eyes were red. I got hit right here with the bricks," she said.
New Castle police identified the driver as 34-year-old Shayron Barksdale of Middletown, who was behind the wheel of a silver Dodge Charger.
Matthews said after the crash, the driver said his brakes were bad, then threatened to shoot them with his gun before running away.
"He tried to come in the house, then he took off running. I got into her car and followed him to make sure he was not leaving," roommate Ashley Long said.
Police said Barksdale was found and arrested less than a mile away. A K-9 unit also recovered a loaded handgun near where he fled. He is now facing charges including reckless endangerment and vehicular assault.
The home has been deemed unsafe to live in, and the family is now trying to find another place to stay.
