Car falls into pit after driver plows through construction area in Philadelphia's Frankford section

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A driver is in the hospital after plowing through a fenced-in area that's under construction in Philadelphia's Frankford section and falling into a pit.

The sedan got stuck in this large opening in the ground, just after midnight on Wednesday.

The scene is off Frankford Avenue, near where Hunting Park Avenue and Jasper Street connect.

It's unclear what caused the driver to ignore the large road closure signs and fencing.

That person is in stable condition.
