Mail-in ballots in Philly must be in drop box by 8 p.m. Election Day

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Those who applied for a mail-in ballot need to drop them off by 8 p.m. on Election Day for their vote to count.

Philadelphia City Commissioner Chair Omar Sabir stopped by the 6abc studios Tuesday morning to help voters avoid mistakes when it comes to properly filling out those ballots.

"If you have your ballot, please put your ballot into the yellow secrecy envelope," he said. "After it goes into the yellow envelope, you're going to put it into the return envelope and then they just have to sign and date the back."

After filling out and sealing the ballot, voters are asked to drop them off in the green drop boxes across the city.

Ballots mailed on Election Day will not make it in time to be counted.

Sabir says about 72,000 mail-in ballots have already been returned.
