PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man and woman believed to be a father and daughter were found dead Saturday afternoon in a Port Richmond home in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide.
Philadelphia police responded to a home on the 2800 block of Mercer Street around 1:30 p.m. for a reported shooting. Officers found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead a short time later.
Police said their preliminary investigation indicates the shooting was domestic in nature and involved a father and daughter. Investigators are treating the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide.
No one else was inside the home at the time of the shooting, police said.
The deaths left neighbors in the tight-knit neighborhood shaken.
"It's shocking, surprising, very much so," one anonymous neighbor said. "This little area right here is very quiet, so, very family oriented. Horrible."
The road was closed in both directions as detectives with the homicide unit investigated. Crime scene investigators were seen entering and leaving the home.
Police have not released the identities of the man and woman or provided additional details about what led to the shooting.
