FIFA World Cup could cost businesses billions in lost productivity

The countdown is on to the FIFA World Cup, with the first game taking place in Philadelphia in just a matter of days.

And while the world's biggest sporting event is a win for soccer and the local economy, it could become a costly challenge for employers.

Workforce management company UKG estimates the World Cup could cost businesses about $17 billion in lost productivity globally.

Their survey found that these hits will come from employees skipping work or showing up tired or hungover.

Twenty percent of workers said they'd think about finding a new job if work negatively impacted their World Cup experience.

UKG predicts U.S. employers could lose about $12 billion in productivity.
