Congressman Fitzpatrick: No ICE detention center in district

LANGHORNE, Pa. (WPVI) -- Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick is trying to reassure residents about proposed ICE detention centers in Pennsylvania.

The Republican stated that the Department of Homeland Security and ICE do not plan to open a detention facility in his district, which covers Bucks County and parts of Montgomery County.

Fitzpatrick said he reached out to DHS after hearing from concerned residents and would oppose the opening of any facility in his district.

A facility is planned for neighboring Berks County in Upper Bern Township.

The Department of Homeland Security plans to convert a 518,000-square-foot facility there into an ICE detention center, after it was sold for $87.4 million.
