Saturn Aura model year 2007-2008 vehicles are being recalled by General Motors due to transmission cable defect.

Saturn Auras with four-speed automatic transmission, manufactured between April 24, 2006, and October 31, 2007, are affected, totaling 56,214 potential vehicles.

The vehicle has a transmission shift cable that may fracture, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the shifter will not be able to return to the "park" position, and the key will not disengage from the ignition.

A vehicle not in the "park" position poses a roll-away risk to the exiting driver or passengers, or nearby bystanders or property.

GM will notify owners and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket free of charge, according to the NHTSA. Owners may contact General Motors at (800) 553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
